Lyadsky Gate
The Lyadsky Gate ( Ukrainian Лядські ворота ) or Pechersky Gate ( Печерські ворота ) is a monument built in 2001 on the Majdan Nesaleschnosti , the central square of the Ukrainian capital Kiev .
The Lyadski Gate is a memorial to the south-eastern city gate of Kiev, which stood at this point in the Middle Ages , where the route to the Kiev Pechersk Lavra began. The gate is adorned with a coat of arms with an arch and two arrows and, since 2002 , has been crowned by a bronze sculpture of Archangel Michael , the patron saint of the city of Kiev.
The sculptor of the angel sculpture was the Ukrainian sculptor Anatoly Kushch , who was also the sculptor of the Independence Monument of Ukraine and the Fountain of the City Founders , which also stand on the Maidan.
