The Llantrisant and Taff Vale Junction Railway was a British railway company based in Glamorganshire in Wales .

history

The company was founded on June 7, 1861. The Taff Vale Railway financed this enterprise. The aim was to prevent competing railway companies from opening up the area west of their own route between Cardiff and Merthyr Tydfil . The standard-gauge railway line between Maesaraul Junction (near Llantrisant ) and Tonteg Junction was opened in December 1863 for freight and in 1865 for passenger traffic. Between Maesaraul Junction and Llantrisant, the existing broad gauge line of the Great Western Railway was addedA third rail was installed for the Mwyndy mine. Later, a few connecting railways were created for various companies. The Taff Vale Railway (TVR) operated the route from the start. On June 20, 1870, the TVR leased the Llantrisant and Taff Vale Junction Railway for 999 years retrospectively from the start of operations. On August 26, 1889, the company was taken over by the Taff Vale Railway.
