Hole (unit)

Hole was a volume measure for dry goods in the former Lower Saxony , especially in the Duchy of Braunschweig . The measure corresponded to the current Metze (Braunschw.), I.e. 1/640 Wispel .

1 hole = 109 cubic inches (Preuss.) = 9/16 Metzen (Preuss.) = Before 1816 around 1.993 liters ; from 1816 around 1.950 liters

The dimensional chain was

1 hole = 1/4 Viersat = 1/16 ridge = 1/160 bushel = 1/640 wispel
