Reservoir

The first plan to use hydropower in Scotland included the damming of Loch Sloy. The dam, which was built in the 1940s, was the longest of its kind in Scotland at the time of construction with a length of 366 m. When erecting the 46 m high structure, some German prisoners of war from World War II were used. The damming caused the length of the lake to be doubled, whereby it gained around 50 m in depth. The rain catchment area quadrupled through this measure. The associated power station was built with the Sloy Power Station on the three kilometers southeast of Loch Lomond . Several two-meter-diameter pressure lines were driven from the dam wall through the Ben Vorlich to the power station. With the Inveruglas Water , a natural river also flows out of Loch Sloy, which flows into Loch Lomond after three kilometers.
