The Loch of Harray and the Loch of Stenness are the two largest lakes in the Orkney Islands in Scotland . They are located on the main island Mainland . The old Norse name is Heraðvatn. It is named after the nearby Harray community. The Loch of Harray is connected to the Loch of Stenness at the Brodgar Bridge and contains mostly fresh water . The two lakes together have an area of 19.3 km². However, the volume is only small, because the Loch of Stenness has a maximum depth of 5.2 m. With the Stones of Stenness, it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site The Heart of Neolithic Orkney .
