Loch of the Lowes is a freshwater lake in the Scottish Lowlands. The lake is located in the Scottish Borders Unitary Authority between Selkirk and Moffat, about 72 km south of Edinburgh .
Loch of the Lowes is largely rectangular in shape. It is about 1.5 km long and 400 m wide. The greatest depth is about 18 m. The lake receives water from numerous streams, notably Little Yarrow , Riskinhope Burn , Thirlestone Burn, and Chapelhope Burn . In the north, Loch of the Lowes drains via an only about 150 m long tributary into the immediately north lying St Mary's Loch , whose water level is only about 30 cm below that of Loch of the Lowes. The west bank of the lake is easily accessible via the well-developed A708 (see Yarrow Stone ) from Selkirk as well as from Moffat, the east bank is not accessed by any road.
