The Logophon Verlag is a German publishing house based in Stockstadt am Main , which on December 18, 1979 was established. He is part of the ESO Education Group , one of the largest private education providers in Germany. Today Logophon publishes books, scripts and other teaching aids in the areas of IT , life support, pedagogy and fiction .

history

Pierre Semidei, the founder of the ESO Education Group , had the idea in 1979 to publish teaching methods and teaching materials for foreign language teaching in his own publishing house. He realized this idea by founding the Logophon Verlag in Mainz with Jean-Pierre Jouteux in the same year . Since then, Jean-Pierre Jouteux has been managing director of Logophon Verlag with Pierre Semidei and co-founder of several euro schools in nine federal states. For the teaching methods and materials already used in the Euro Schools, the languages English, French, Spanish, Italian and German as a foreign language were further developed and marketed.

From 1990 the publisher also acted as a mail order bookstore and central book distributor for the then approximately 90 educational institutions of the ESO Education Group and also for many other educational institutions as well as for private customers. As a mail-order bookstore, Logophon now supplies all the books of the VLB (directory of available books) and, like all publishers and bookstores in Germany, is bound to the fixed prices of the German book trade. The publisher also purchases books from other European countries.

In 1991, in close cooperation with the authors Bob Mellor and Vicky Davison, the textbooks of the series How to Pass - English for Business and How to Pass - Spoken English for Industry and Commerce were created , which are still used worldwide to prepare for the LCCI exam . Logophon Verlag is the only publisher in Europe that is authorized to distribute these books.

With Der neue Weg , Stefan Brummund and his wife created the textbook German as a Foreign Language in three volumes with a teaching manual, audio cassettes and other literacy materials for the then quality association Euro Schools Organization . With the help of this textbook, the German language could be learned in six months, the participants had been given the basis for successfully passing the required language course. For repatriates and immigrants, Der neue Weg initially meant a general orientation aid and, in particular, help in dealing with people, situations and institutions in order to be able to shape their lives in Germany and thus secure social integration.

From 1993 to 2001, a then newly established department “Study trips to Asia” arranged study places for German students at around 16 Chinese universities and organized study trips to China, Tibet, Taiwan and Japan. Due to many inquiries from China for qualifications recognized across Europe, Logophon also organized the academic training of Chinese students in Germany. However, due to significantly changed framework conditions, this line of business was discontinued in 2018.

Jean-Pierre Jouteux, an early companion of Pierre Semidei for many years, ran the publisher's business from the start. In July 2018, at the age of almost 74, he retired. Since July 1, 2018, Sigrid Kaiser-Becker has been in charge of the publishing house and Silvia Semidei has been managing director. In October 2018, the publishing house moved from Mainz to the premises of the ESO Education Group, at Hauptstrasse 23 in Stockstadt am Main .
