Lois Gunden
Lois Gunden (* 1915 ; † 2005 ) was one of five US citizens who were recognized by Yad Vashem as " Righteous Among the Nations ".
Life
Gunden grew up in Goshen , Indiana , and went to southern France in 1941 to work for the Mennonite Central Committee . She set up a children's home in which she hid Spanish refugee children and Jewish children.
She was arrested by the Germans in January 1943, but released on a prisoner exchange in 1944. She returned to Indiana and married a widower, Ernest Clemens, in 1958. She did not have children of her own, but got a stepdaughter through her marriage. Ms. Gunden first taught French at Goshen College and later at Temple University in Philadelphia .
