Lolong

Lolong († February 10, 2013 ) was a Filipino saltwater crocodile . With a length of 6.17 meters and a weight of 1,075 kilograms, it is considered the largest crocodile of its kind to date, which has also been officially confirmed by the Guinness Book of Records . Lolong was around 50 years old.

It was named Lolong by its hunter Ernesto “Lolong” Goloran Cañete, who pursued it in September 2011 but died of a heart attack while hunting. The crocodile was discovered in a stream in Bunawan in the province of Agusan del Sur by the mayor and the Philippine crocodile hunters Ronny Simona and caught with crocodile hunters and local residents. It has since been held at the Bunawan Ecopark and Wildlife Reservation Center in Barangay Consuelo. On February 10, 2013, Lolong was found dead in his enclosure.
