The Lomami colobus monkey ( Piliocolobus parmentieri ) is a primate species from the group of colobus monkeys that occurs in a very small area in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo . It is located southwest of Kisangani between the Lomami and Lualaba Rivers and extends south to the Lutanga and Ruiki Rivers.

The Lomami colobus monkey is one of the smallest Central African red colobus monkeys . The fur on the back, the outer sides of the limbs and the top of the head are brick red, the upper back, the shoulders and the outer sides of the upper arms are blackish. The throat, chest, abdomen and the insides of the limbs are whitish. Hands and feet are black. The tail is reddish at the base and becomes increasingly darker towards the end, but without becoming completely black. The top of the head is brick-red and is bordered by a black band at the front and sides. The base of the ears is black. The hairless skin of the face is black, the lips, chin, base of the nose and eyelids are unpigmented and light pink. In contrast to other Central African red colobus monkeys, the Lomami colobus monkey does not have a head of hair on the top of the head. From the Thollon colobus monkey ( P. tholloni ), which occurs in the central part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and also on the western bank of the Lomami, the Lomami colobus monkey and the like. a. by a longer tail. Systematics

The Lomami colobus monkey was described in 1987 as a subspecies of a broad collective species "East African colobus monkey" ( P. rufomitratus ). It is closely related to the Oustalet colobus monkey ( P. oustaleti ), which occurs in the north of the Democratic Republic of the Congo between the Congo and the Ubangi .

The IUCN does not yet list the Lomami colobus monkey in its Red List of Endangered Species . There are no protected areas in the distribution area.
