London Post Office Railway series 1927

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1927 class of the London Post Office Railway was built by English Electric in 1927 . 90 of these four-wheeled railcars were built. They served as the first fleet of cars on the London Post Office Railway.

The vehicles were numbered 591-680, three cars each formed a train . The wagons did not prove themselves, as they tended to derail frequently and also had too little capacity to transport mail in the British capital. That is why they were replaced shortly afterwards by 50 cars from the 1930 series . The electrical equipment from the 1927 series was reused.

Car 601 has been preserved and is now in Mount Pleasant.
