London Conference (1938)

The XVI. International Red Cross and Red Crescent Conference took place in London from June 20-25, 1938 .

At this conference of the International Red Cross it was decided to hold a day each year for initiatives for peace (Resolution XXIV). This resulted in the so-called World Red Cross Day (the “Red Crescent Day” in Islamic countries). It is traditionally celebrated on May 8th , the birthday of the Red Cross founder Henry Dunant .
