Longshan Grottoes

The Longshan Grottoes ( Chinese  龍山 石窟  /  龙山 石窟 , Pinyin Lóngshān shíkū , English Longshan Grottoes ) are located in the area of ​​the city of Taiyuan , Shanxi Province , China, on the summit of Longshan Mountain ("Dragon Mountain"), about twenty Kilometers southeast of Taiyuan.

The grottoes are one of the few Daoist cave complexes in China. They were created by the Daoist monk Song Defang宋德芳 (1183–1247), the Quanzhen patriarch, in the early years of the Mongol period , and in some cases earlier. There are nine caves inside with over forty statues and inscriptions on the walls from the Mongol era.

The Longshan Grottoes have been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China in Shanxi (4-192) since 1996 .
