Justice yuan

The Justice Yuan is located near the President's Office in Zhongzheng Town, Taipei .

The Justice Yuan ( Chinese  司法院 , Pinyin Sīfǎyuàn ) is one of the five Yuans (Council of State) of the Republic of China in Taiwan in Taipei and a surveillance authority of the government. There are also yuan for the legislative , executive , control and auditing branches . The constitutional court ( Chinese  大法官 會議  /  大法官 会议 , Pinyin Dàfǎguān Huìyì , English Justices of the Constitutional Court ) with 15 members has the task of interpreting the constitution of the republic in accordance with the law and is comparable to the German constitutional court in terms of the separation of powers . The President and the Vice-President of the Justice Yuan are appointed by the President. The term of office of four members of the yuan, along with the president and vice-president, is four years, with the remaining nine members remaining in office for eight years.

The Judicial Yuan also oversees all other subordinate courts, such as the "Supreme Court", the "High Courts", the "District Courts", the "Administrative Court" and the "Public Disciplinary Committee".

The local courts handle cases in the first instance, the high courts deal with appeals, among other things, and the Supreme Court is the final instance for appeals. The Supreme Court does not deal with constitutional claims.
