The Loop-I super-bubble is a spherical area about 400 to 500  light-years across in interstellar space , the center of which is about 300 light-years from the Sun in the constellation Centaur . The bladder is of a shell of neutral hydrogen ( HI area bounded), which from the hot located in the center OB - stars of Scorpius-Centaurus Association was molded and is dispersed continued. The region within the bladder is largely free of dust . A well-known star in this region is the red supergiant Antares .

The super-bubble stretches in the night sky over an area of almost 90 ° between the constellations Snake Bearer and the ship's keel , but is not visible apart from a few dark objects on the edge and the star associations located inside . The edge of Loop-I contains dense molecular clouds , including dark clouds such as the Coal Sack in the Southern Cross constellation and the Rho- Ophiuchi dark cloud.

The Loop-I super-bubble borders on the Local Bubble , which our solar system has traversed for several million years.
