Loop (transport system)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Loop is a transportation system proposed by entrepreneur Elon Musk . It enables specially converted and autonomously driving Tesla electric cars to drive through an underground tunnel system. The system is being developed by the Boring Company .

development

The new system was presented in December 2018 at a test facility in Hawthorne , a district of Los Angeles . The test car used reached a speed of 180 km / h. It is planned that the cars can drive autonomously at speeds of up to 240 km / h and follow one another at intervals of one second. According to other information, the planned speed should be 480 km / h. On a test drive for journalists, however, only 80 km / h were reached. The test tunnel built so far is 3 km long.

The cars are supposed to enter the tunnel system through elevators and drive through the tunnel tubes with their own drive. Additional wheels should keep the car on track. It is also planned to have our own carriages ready for the transport of cyclists and pedestrians. In addition, there are plans to accelerate or brake the vehicles used with special equipment at the start and end points of the tunnel.

Planning

There are plans to build a tunnel in Los Angeles that will bring visitors to baseball games from subway stations to Dodger Stadium .

Another project aims in Chicago downtown with the Chicago O'Hare International Airport connect.
