Overview of the closed stations between Baker Street and Finchley Road

Lord’s is a closed station on London Underground on the Metropolitan Line . It belongs to a group of three disused stations that were located between what is now Baker Street and Finchley Road . The other two are Marlborough Road and Swiss Cottage .

The opening of the station (under the name St. John's Wood Road ) took place on April 13, 1868 as part of the opening of the route between Swiss Cottage and Baker Street. The platforms were in a covered cut, the station building was on St. John's Wood Road, near the intersection with Park Road. In 1924/25 the building was replaced by a new building to cope with the crowds when games were held in the neighboring Lord's Cricket Ground . On April 1, 1925, the name was changed to St. John's .

Only a few passengers used the station on normal days. From October 1, 1929, it was only open on working days from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It was given its last name on June 11, 1939, just four months before it closed on November 19, 1939. The reason for the closure was the acceleration of the Metropolitan Line, which then and now runs very far out of the city.

The connection to the underground network was ensured by the opening of the Stanmore branch of the Bakerloo Line (today part of the Jubilee Line ) on the following day with the nearby St. John's Wood station . Only remnants of the platform systems remain today, which are used as emergency exits. The station building was demolished in the late 1960s.
