Overview of the closed stations between Baker Street and Finchley Road

Swiss Cottage is a closed station on the London Underground on the Metropolitan Line . It belongs to a group of three disused stations that were located between what is now Baker Street and Finchley Road . The other two are Lord’s and Marlborough Road .

The station opened on April 13, 1868 as the terminus of the route from Baker Street. The station building was at the intersection of Finchley Road and Avenue Road. On June 30, 1879, the line was extended to Willesden Green .

To speed up the Metropolitan Line, the station was abandoned on August 17, 1940, after a station of the same name of the Stanmore branch of the Bakerloo Line (now part of the Jubilee Line ) had already been opened on November 20, 1939 . The access building was demolished in order to widen the street running above the station. The station now serves as an emergency exit, for which short platforms have been built on both sides of the route for the evacuation of the train through the driver's cab.
