Earl of Kincardine
Earl of Kincardine is a hereditary British title of nobility created three times in the Peerage of Scotland .
Awards
The title was first created on May 6, 1644 for James Graham, 5th Earl of Montrose , along with the parent title Marquess of Montrose and the subsidiary title Lord Graham and Mugdock . His descendant, the 4th Earl, was elevated to Duke of Montrose on April 24, 1707 . Together with the Dukedom he was awarded the titles of Marquess of Graham and Buchanan , Viscount of Dundaff , Lord Aberruthven and again the title of Earl of Kincardine .
In parallel, the title was awarded to Edward Bruce on December 26, 1647 , along with the subordinate title of Lord Bruce of Torry . His descendant, the 9th Earl, inherited the title of 5th Earl of Elgin along with subordinate titles in 1747 . The two earldoms have since been united. The 12th Earl of Kincardine was also awarded the title Baron Elgin , of Elgin in Scotland on November 13, 1849 in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
