James Graham, 3rd Duke of Montrose , KG , KT , PC ( February 8, 1755 - December 30, 1836 in London ) was a Scottish nobleman and statesman.

Graham was elected to the House of Commons for Richmond in 1780 , and in 1783 he became one of the Lords of the Treasury . Six years later he switched to the post of paymaster of the armed forces and vice-president of the Board of Trade , and in the following year he also took over the post of Master of the Horse , which he held until 1795.

In 1795 Graham, who had inherited the title of Duke of Montrose five years earlier after the death of his father , took over the office of the highest judge of Scotland, which he held until his death, i.e. for 41 years. From 1804 to 1806 he was also President of the Board of Trade . Before Graham was Lord Chamberlain of the Household from 1821 to 1830, with a break in 1828 , he again held the post of Masters of the Horse from 1807 to 1821 .

In addition to these offices, some of which included government responsibility, were partly assigned to the court, Graham was Chancellor of the University of Glasgow from 1780 until his death . He was also Lord Lieutenant of various Scottish lieutenancy areas .
