Lord Ivar Alexander Michael Mountbatten (born March 9, 1963 in London ) is a British peer .

He comes from the Battenberg-Mountbatten family , which also includes Prince Philip . He lost his father at the age of eight. His older brother is the polo player George Mountbatten .

Private

Mountbatten was married to Penelope Anne Vere Thompson (born March 17, 1966) from 1994 to 2011 and has three daughters. He currently lives in a partnership with James Coyle and is the first member of the royal family to publicly acknowledge his homosexuality. The two married on September 22, 2018.

Through his paternal grandmother , who is of Russian nobility, he descends from the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin , from Abraham Petrovich Hannibal , an African general of Peter the Great , and from Catherine the Great .
