Lord Sempill is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Scotland .

The title was created for Sir John Sempill , around 1489 . The exact date of the award is not certain. He fell at the Battle of Flodden Field in 1513. The respective lord is the hereditary clan chief of Clan Sempill . In the absence of direct male descendants, the title can also be inherited in the female line. Today his descendant James Sempill, 21st Lord Sempill holds the title.

The 17th Lord had also inherited the title of 8th Forbes Baronet , of Craigievar in the County of Aberdeen , in 1846 , which was created on April 20, 1630 in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia. After the 19th Lord's death in 1965, this title fell to another line of the family.
