Lorenz Piehl

Lorenz Piehl (* 1989 in Magdeburg ) is a German film director and screenwriter.

Life

Piehl was born in Magdeburg and was a student at the boarding school in Roßleben . He studies the subject of "directing scenic film" at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy in Ludwigsburg and also works as a freelance advertising director.

Lorenz Piehl's short film Escaping Damascus , a chamber play about refugees trying to escape from Syria, was shown at the 48th Hof International Film Festival in 2014. The mood of the film is particularly shaped by the fact that all roles are cast by actors with their own flight experience. Some of the actors met again on the set of the film in Germany for the first time after their escape together.

The short film Guy (2016) is about the fascination of a young rock musician for the " Klub 27 ", whose members were all famous musicians of the rock scene and who died at the age of 27. For this film, Lorenz Piehl worked with musicians who then embodied the characters in the film as amateur actors. Together they produced a vinyl record with songs written especially for the film.

Zorn dem Volke is a one-shot political thriller with a special camera concept. The main character Nikolai is always the center of the picture, which means that the plot is often only represented by his reactions and the tone. In addition to many other screenings, the film was shown at the renowned Camerimage festival in Poland in 2017 .
