Lorenz Stöer , also Lienhart or Laurentio or Stör, Stoer, Sterr or Storr (born before 1555; died after 1599 in Augsburg ) was a German painter and graphic artist of the 16th and possibly 17th centuries. Along with Wenzel Jamnitzer and Johannes Lencker, he is one of the three Nuremberg masters who dealt with perspective representation .

Life

The life dates are largely unknown, it has been proven that he was active from 1555 to 1599.

On April 8, 1555 he received the printing privilege from Ferdinand I for a book that was to bear the title Perspectiva a Laurentio Stoero in lucem prodita , but nothing is known about the book itself. Stöer resigned his citizenship in Nuremberg on May 24, 1557. Stör's wife Anna died in the winter of 1556/57, as can be seen from a death-bell book. In 1558 debt claims against Stör were received by the City Council of Nuremberg. Since he had already moved, these were not taken into account. Afterwards he lived in Augsburg as a painter and draftsman. In the years 1594 and 1595 he was named as an expert in Nuremberg .

In Augsburg , Stöer was recorded as a taxpayer from 1562 to 1597. The wood engravings Geometria et Perspectiva appeared in 1567 , on the title page he is named as a citizen of Augsburg. On August 13, 1595 he was mentioned in the Nuremberg files, where he made financial claims. He dated his last drawing in 1599.

In 1567 Lorenz Stöer created Geometria et Perspectiva , a collection of 11 wood engravings with mathematical objects in fantastic landscapes of ruins. The cover sheet reads:

"Geometria et Perspectiva. Here in some broken pieces Gebew the carpenter In inlaid arbait also by other lovers To special please order and put by Lorenz Stör Maller citizen Inn Augspurg LS With Rö Kay May reprint all genedigiste privilegio nit. 1567 "

His designs also served as a template for inlaid furnishings. A cabinet based on his designs is in the Victoria and Albert Museum , and a similar one is in the Brooklyn Museum in New York.
