The Los Angeles Style , created between 1995 and 2000, is a salsa dance style. It is often abbreviated as LA Style . The brothers Luis, Francisco and Johnny Vazquez are considered to be the first distributors .

Characteristics

The Los Angeles Style contains an extraordinary number of choreographic elements and show characters, which makes it particularly popular for cinema productions, performances and dance tournaments. It is now often used as a synonym for Salsa "on 1", "on line" and is therefore called New York Styleconfused on 1. LA Style can only be danced on 1 (in contrast to New York Style, which can be danced on both "2" and "1"). Salsa has become popular "on 1" within the amateur scene and is often danced at salsa parties; Here, manageable figures have prevailed over choreographed elements. In continental Europe, many dance schools refer to this style. Strictly speaking, there is no real difference in use from New York Style to 1, LA Style and the other Cross Body Salsa styles. LA Style was decisively shaped by Johnny Vasquez, but is constantly experiencing new influences and changes through the scene, including at salsa congresses and conventions. Salsa is one of the lively types of dance .

Emphasizing the “1” when dancing “on 1” (LA style etc.) is usually easier with the popular mixes of salsa and reggaeton (salsa tone), as the 1 is more audible there. It mostly corresponds more to the listening habits common in western cultures (such as rock, folk music, etc.). In many older traditional salsas, however, the emphasis on the 2 can be heard more clearly (Fania All Stars etc.). The emphasis on the offbeat , the “2” (often in jazz / black music), does not occur in German folk music. Accordingly, it is often easier for people from western cultures to get used to salsa music "on 1".

Basic steps of Salsa LA style

Its features include:

  • In the basic step, the man walks forward on the first beat with the left, the woman on the right backwards.
  • The woman focuses more on the line than the man, almost every step takes place on the line.
  • Existence of longer phases without physical contact or guidance, in which the dancers shine for themselves (shines).

Typical figures:

  • Cross body lead
  • Open break
  • sombrero
  • Titanic

In Germany, the salsa on the line on 1 (LA Style etc.) is most widespread in the south and west.
