New York style

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The New York Style is a style of Latin American salsa . It differs from the Cuban " casino " essentially in that it gives the lady more freedom to present herself .

Characteristic

Much emphasis is placed on solo interludes, on shines and on show effects, such as B. Case Figures. Many of the characters contain choreographic elements. The harmony in dance sometimes consists in the fact that the partners basically know the sequence of the individual figures, but each time they put the figures back together again and still know - even without consultation - what to do.

The essential dance element is the so-called cross body lead , a counterclockwise change of place for the woman.

Overall, the New York style (like the closely related Puerto Rico style ) cannot hide its origins from the classical dance school. In this sense, it appears more elegant and harmonious, while the Cuban “ casino ” seems more spirited and playful.

Styles

There are two more variants of Salsa New York Style: (There are many different names in use for each of the two styles, which often cause confusion. The names that are also common are given in brackets)

Both variants are danced "on 2", but in different ways.
