Los Otros

Los Otros (“The Others”) is the name of an instrumental ensemble that specializes in early music and was founded in 2001 by Hille Perl , Lee Santana and Steve Player. The gamba player Hille Perl and lutenist Lee Santana worked previously been together for many years. Steve Player, a London-born dancer and guitarist, joined them in 1998. The trio plays with two historical guitars and a viola da gamba . Occasionally they also work with other artists.

Los Otros are mainly dedicated to Italian and Spanish dance music from the 17th and 18th centuries. In doing so, they develop their own characteristic style, which can no longer be easily assigned. Improvisation and spontaneity play an important role in the work of the musicians, who, in addition to great playfulness and virtuosity, are certified as having an “almost blind understanding of one another” .

Her first work Tinto , published in February 2003, was awarded the ECHO Klassik in the “Early Music” category in autumn that year . For their second CD, on which they worked with percussionist Pedro Estevan , they took works by the composer Sebastián de Aguirre that are almost 400 years old. For their CD entitled La Hacha (in German: the torch or the ax) they got together with the Mexican ensemble Tembembe Ensamble Continuo , whose members complement the trio with song, dance and guitar and the Los Otros have access to the source material for procured this program, which is set in baroque Mexico .

The musicians publish their recordings on the label deutsche harmonia mundi , which belongs to Sony BMG .
