Lost Patrol

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lost Patrol is a strategy / action mix for the Commodore Amiga , Atari ST and MS-DOS . It was developed by Shadow Development and published by Ocean Software in 1990. In Germany, the BPjS indexed the game on March 31, 1992 ( Federal Gazette No. 63).

action

The action takes place during the Vietnam War . A group of US soldiers crashed in their helicopter in the Vietnamese highlands in June 1965 after a vacation at the front in Saigon . The seven surviving soldiers now have to make their way through the impassable area to their nearest base, Du Hoc. The 58 mile forced march is peppered with hidden cargoes, minefields, enemy scouting parties and various smaller villages. The chances for the group are not very good, as their supplies of food and ammunition are low, and some of the men were injured in the helicopter crash .

Gameplay

The player takes on the role of Sergeant Weaver, the only non-commissioned officer in the group of survivors. He can use a strategy map to determine the route and the speed at which he walks through the jungle , but has to consider the level of fatigue, morale and hunger of his men. If the march is too strenuous, for example, the men refuse to go on and ask for a rest. Depending on the injuries suffered by the individual soldiers, the morale and state of health of the men deteriorated over time, so that, even without further enemy influence, if they were not treated, they would eventually die. In addition to the strategy map, Lost Patrol also includes various action sequences that occur on the one hand randomly, but on the other hand also at fixed locations.

Fist fight

If the player has assigned a soldier as a scout , it is possible that he discovers a single Viet Cong in the jungle. A street fighter- like battle then ensues. If the player wins, he can take some food and ammunition from the dead Viet Cong. If he loses, the soldier assigned as a scout dies.

sniper

The group comes under sniper fire from a nearby village. The player only sees the enemy muzzle flash and has to fight the enemy himself with a sniper rifle , represented by a crosshair. If he takes too long to do this, individual soldiers in the group are injured or killed. He can designate a soldier in the group to be the shooter; depending on the soldier's ability, the crosshairs will shake more or less.

Firefight

The group is surprised by a Viet Cong train. Lying behind the remains of a wall, she fights the enemy by fire. With the right mouse button he can look out over the remains of the wall and with the left mouse button open fire from an M60 ( machine gun ). In addition, the player can throw hand grenades at the enemy. If the player takes too much time, his position will be stormed by the Viet Cong or individual soldiers will be shot.

MG nest

The squad is held down by an enemy machine gun squad . The machine-gun nest must be dug with hand grenades, the throwing range and direction of which is determined by the player.

graphic

Hand-drawn still images and digitized black and white video sequences from the Vietnam War appear randomly or at key points in the game .
