Lothar Voetz

Lothar Voetz (born December 12, 1945 in Kempen ) is a German German philologist and former professor at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg .

Life

Voetz studied German, Catholic theology and philosophy at the Universities of Bonn and Münster from 1966 to 1971 . In 1975 he received his doctorate in Münster in the subjects of German philology , Catholic theology and philosophy. In 1982 the habilitation followed with the award of the Venia legendi for the subject of German philology. As a result, he held a temporary professorship for older German philology at the German Department of Heidelberg University until 1989 . In 1989 he became a full professor at the German Department of the University of Münster. After a visiting professorship for German literature of the Middle Ages from 1990 to 1992 at the University of Vienna , in 1992 he moved to the full professorship for older German philology at the German department of the University of Heidelberg, which he held until his retirement in 2011.

Research and writings (selection)

Voetz's main research interests are German manuscript studies, the beginnings of the German language, literature and word formation, and Middle High German poetry. In addition, he conducted research on the history of science and mediaeval edition studies . The Nibelungenlied and the Codex Manesse formed sub- focal points .
