Lotsawa

Lotsawa ( Tib . : lo tsA ba ) is a Tibetan title for a translator .

The following people bear the title Lotsawa:

  • Gö Lotsawa (1392–1481), author of the Blue Annals
  • Marpa Lotsawa (1012-1097), one of the translators who established the New Translation traditions in Tibet in the 11th century
  • Nampar Nangdze Lotsawa (8th century), important translator of Buddhist teachings at the time of the first phase of translation of Buddhist scriptures from Indian Sanskrit into Tibetan
