Lotta Svärd - ( German  Lotta Sword ) is a poem in the epic Fähnrich Stahl (Swedish Fänrik Ståls sägner ) by the Finnish-Swedish poet Johan Ludvig Runeberg .

Lotta Svärd is the fourth poem in the second volume of the collection, published in 1860. It is about Lotta Svärd, a fictional sutler in the Russian-Swedish war of 1808/09. In the poem, the soldier Svärd takes his wife Lotta into battle. After falling on the battlefield, Lotta takes care of the wounded.

Inspired by Runeberg poem, the name of the Swedish founded in 1924 lead Lotta movement (Swedish Lottarörelsen ) and the 1,918 jobs created and the Finnish winter and continuation war make Lotta Svärd Organization (Finnish Lotta Svärd-järjestö ) from. Both serve as civil protection organizations for women in the event of war. The name idea goes back to a speech given by the Finnish Commander-in-Chief Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim on May 16, 1918. This poem was also a model for Bertolt Brecht's drama Mother Courage and Her Children .
