The Lotus 59 was a Formula 2 and Formula 3 racing car that was built by Lotus in 1969 .

With the Lotus 59 and the Formula 3 version, the Lotus 59B , Lotus developed two very successful racing cars for the two small international monoposto categories. Dave Baldwin designed a very complex vehicle for the 1960s based on a square tubular space frame. Although the vehicles did not have very effective aerodynamics, they had very good handling.

In Formula 2, the vehicles were used by the Roy Winkelmann Racing Team . The team was supported by the plant and the two Lotus Formula 1 works drivers Graham Hill and Jochen Rindt and the German Rolf Stommelen competed for Winkelmann in 1969. Jochen Rindt dominated the Formula 2 races with the 59 almost at will.

In Formula 3, Emerson Fittipaldi competed for the GLTL team with a Lotus 59B and Tony Trimmer won the British Formula 3 Championship in 1970 with the 59 .
