Lough Lene ( Irish Loch Léinn ) is a lake in northern County Westmeath in Ireland .
It is near the towns of Castlepollard , Collinstown and Fore , approximately 12 miles (19 km ) northeast of Mullingar , the capital of Westmeath and the largest town in the Irish Midlands .
The Glacier Edge Lake has an area of 5 km² (500 hectares ). It is about 97 meters above sea level . There are three islands in the lake: Nun's Island ( Oileán na gCailleach Dubh ), Castle Island ( Oileán an Chaisleáin ) and Turgesius Island.
The lake was best known for the archaeological find of the Lough Lene Bell .
