Louis Alexandre Stanislas de Bourbon, prince de Lamballe (born September 6, 1747 in Paris , † May 6, 1768 in Louveciennes ) was a prince of the Bourbon family and thus a member of the French royal family.

childhood

Louis Alexandre Stanislas de Bourbon was in the Hôtel Toulouse in Paris as the son of Louis Jean Marie de Bourbon, duc de Penthièvre (1725-1793) and Maria Teresa Felicita d'Este (1726-1754), the daughter of Duke Francis III. from Modena , born. Louis XIV was his great-grandfather. Louis-Alexandre was the only son of his parents to reach adulthood. His mother died at the age of 27 when he was seven. He grew up with his sister Louise Marie Adélaïde on their father's property.

Life

In January 1767, he married Marie Louise of Savoy, Mademoiselle de Carignan , a princess from the branch of the House of Savoy, who had been chosen as the prince's bride for her beauty and piety. His father hoped that his charming daughter-in-law would have a soothing influence on the young bon vivant. The wedding celebrations lasted a whole week and were luxuriously designed. But after just three months, Louis Alexandre Stanislas de Bourbon resumed his bachelor life. At times he lived with an actress in Paris and sold his wife's jewelry to pay off his exorbitant debts.

Early death

At the age of 20, Louis Alexandre Stanislas de Bourbon succumbed to an advanced sexually transmitted disease on May 6, 1768 at 8:30 a.m. in the Château de Louveciennes in the presence of his wife and father. Because of his death, all courts in the Kingdom of France were mourned for 10 days. This was a special favor, but one that was worthy of the son of a French couple.

The premature death of the Prince de Lamballe meant that the enormous fortune of his father (he was the richest private citizen in France) passed through his sister to the House of Orléans .
