history
The Hôtel de Toulouse was built from 1634 to 1640 according to the plans of the architect François Mansart for Louis I Phélypeaux de La Vrillière (1598–1681). The client, a high dignitary of the Ancien Régime , had a 40 meter long gallery built for his art collection. In 1705 his grandson Louis II Phélypeaux de La Vrillière (1672-1725) sold the building to the wealthy tax collector Louis Raullin-Rouillé. In 1713 his widow sold the city palace to Louis-Alexandre de Bourbon , Count of Toulouse and son of Louis XIV. And Madame de Montespan . Now known as the Hôtel de Toulouse, the building was remodeled by the royal architect Robert de Cotte . In 1737 Louis Jean Marie de Bourbon inherited the city palace, which was confiscated as a national property in 1793 . Initially he served the Imprimerie nationale and since 1808 the Hôtel de Toulouse has belonged to the Banque de France , which has its main office there to this day. Many structural changes took place in the 19th century and additional buildings were erected on the property.
Gallery dorée
The Galerie dorée (French, German, gilded gallery) has been preserved to this day as it was redesigned under the Count of Toulouse. The gallery, designed in the style of the French Baroque , has gilded wood paneling and ten large paintings.
In the gallery dorée, which can be visited, scenes for feature films have been shot several times, for example for Vatel and Marie Antoinette .
