Louis Heinrici (born July 30, 1847 in Torgau , † probably 1930 in Zwickau ) was a German industrialist and manufacturer.

Little is known about the person of the manufacturer Louis Heinrici, but his products are better known. Louis Heinrici was married to Marie Elisabeth Heinrici, b. Deustler, with whom he had three sons: Joseph Hans Louis Heinrici, Ernst Hermann Heinrici and Rudolf Heinrici.

Louis Heinrici began manufacturing hot-air engines and small engines in rented rooms in 1876 at the age of 29 . He built his first factory building in 1884 in Zwickau (Saxony), at Talstrasse 6. He started the factory with two workers, a lathe and a field forge .

The official company name was: Louis Heinrici, mechanical workshops for precision work, Zwickau in Saxony

The hot-air engines produced by Heinrici were widely used as a mass product in the commercial and private sectors because they served as inexpensive and reliable sources of power.

In 1914 the factory had the following sections: a building for the locksmith's shop, plumbing shop, paint shop, another building for the lathe shop with an upper and a lower turning room and a laboratory and testing room for test runs, as well as an office building for sales offices and warehouses. In the park-like gardens of the turning shop and the office building there were fountains with a diameter of 4 meters. These were provided with decorative spraying garden fountains that were driven by Heinrici motors.

In 1914 the catalog of the then 67-year-old Louis Heinrici reads: Today after 38 years of activity, I am still producing the same large-scale article that I - thanks to a thorough study of all the scientific and technical questions relevant to the construction of such machines, as well as tireless striving for the most attainable perfection - put it first in world trade.

After 38 years, Heinrici was able to demonstrate a total of 21,000 machines sold.

For several decades, Louis Heinrici built various small hot air machines in twelve sizes from 26 to 190 mm piston diameter and in the power ranges from 1.5 W to 0.2 kW. The machines worked with a closed cooling circuit in the upper area, while air cooling was sufficient in the lower area. The speed of the running machine was between 120 and 200 revolutions per minute under load. With a piston diameter of 26 mm, the output was 1/550 HP, with a piston diameter of 40 mm = 1/60 HP, with 80 mm = 1/12 HP, with 100 mm = 1/8 HP and with a piston diameter of 190 mm = 1/2 HP.

The machines could be heated by gases, liquid or solid fuels (luminous gas, petroleum, wood). They weighed between 26 kg for the smallest and 660 kg for the largest machine.

Engineer E. Patzert, then a teacher at the engineering school in Zwickau , carried out braking tests on some Heinrici machines and stated in his test report: The test motors, all of which were freely selected from the number of machines completed, were characterized by their smooth, steady gait and were extremely undemanding in terms of lubrication and maintenance.
