Love Alarm is a South Korean drama series released in 2019. The series is based on the webtoon of the same name by Chon Kye-young . Kim So-hyun , Song Kang and Jung Ga-ram can be seen in the leading roles . The series premiered on Netflix on August 22, 2019 . A second season is being planned.

The smartphone - App Joalarm ( Love Alarm ) has just been put on the market and changed the South Korean company. The app lets its users know when there is a secret admirer within ten meters. After four years, the app recorded around ten million downloads, but some still do not use the app. Most senior high school students trust the app. Kim Jojo has been with her childhood friend Il-sik for years, so neither of them think the app is necessary. Jojo's cousin Park Gul-mi is a K-Pop trainee and is not allowed to use the app by her agency, and the young Lee Hye-yeong does not use the app either.
One day, Hwang Sun-oh, who previously worked as a model and whose mother is famous, comes back from the United States. He visits his friend Hye-yeong. In doing so, however, he notices how he is following the girl Kim Jojo. Sun-oh thinks Hye-yeong fell in love with her. Sun-oh asks Hye-yeong if he is in love with Jojo, which he denies. Sun-oh doesn't believe him and watches Jojo. He falls in love with her himself. One day Sun-oh and Kim Jojo kiss. Both Il-sik and Jojo download the Joalarm app and realize that they have never been in love with each other. From that day on, Jojo and Sun-oh are a couple, but Jojo's cousin Gul-mi is displeased and jealous.

App
The Joalarm app for the Android smartphone operating system was released as merchandise at the start of series production . The app can be downloaded worldwide, but does not work the same as the app in the series and can only be fully exploited in Seoul. The app is used for promotional and couple events around Lake Seokchon in Gangnam , where Netflix offered various attractions for the series until September 1, 2019. The name of the app is made up of the words joa ( 좋아 ) for 'like' and alarm ( 알람 ).
reception
Forbes' Joan MacDonald thinks Kim So-hyun goes well with the character Jojo . For MacDonald it is interesting that the two main characters already kiss in the first episode without being a couple or first confessing their love. This is unusual for Korean dramas . For Stephen McCarty of the South China Morning Post , Love Alarm is not just an innocent love story, but also deals with data protection, homosexual rights, the extreme consequences of lovesickness and social smartphone penetration.
