Love As A Foreign Language is a comic series by the Canadian cartoonists J. Torres and Eric Kim . It's about Joel, who teaches English at a Korean school.

Joel hates Korea . In retrospect, he cannot explain why he agreed to teach there. He wishes to return home as soon as possible. However, when he falls in love with Hana, the school secretary, he considers spending another year in Korea, despite the fact that the country looks to him like a "rotten, smelly place with strange people and even stranger food."

In the course of the plot, Joel and Hana get closer, but Joel often falls into depression because of his hatred of Korean culture .

Publications

Love As A Foreign Language was published as a series of six 72-page books by Oni Press . A republication in the anthology format is planned for May 2006. This anthology is titled Love As A Foreign Language Omnibus and collects the first three volumes.

The German edition of Love As A Foreign Language was published as a three-volume edition by eidalon Verlag and its new label Modern Tales .
