Lovedrug are an indie rock band from Ohio formed in 2001. The band's music combines alternative melancholic indie rock with catchy pop and distinct grunge influences.

history

After several EPs, Lovedrug released their first album Pretend You're Alive in 2004 on the American indie label The Militia Group and were able to achieve the greatest success for this to date. The band was then signed by the major label Columbia Records and became known to a wider audience with the re-release of their debut album - and in particular the radio single Spiders and the accompanying music video. Apart from the rather atypical Spiders , the first album contains dark, guitar-heavy alternative rock with complex song structures.

In 2007 Lovedrug returned to The Militia Group - after accompanying The Killers on a tour, among others - and released their second album Everything Starts Where It Ends there . The second album directs the focus more to catchy stadium pop accompanied by piano passages and the hard guitars increasingly take a back seat. With the singles Happy Apple Poison and Ghost By Your Side , Lovedrug once again posted high chart placements in the USA.

The third album The Sucker Punch Show in 2009 relied on a hard, dark sound and is clearly rooted in the American alternative of the 90s. The Militia Group, the band's home label, had to file for bankruptcy, and The Sucker Punch Show was released through Make My Day Records in Europe, making the band increasingly popular there too. The European version also includes a second version of the album as a bonus, in which all songs have been re-recorded in alternative versions. In 2010 Lovedrug performed in Germany at the Southside and the Hurricane Festival, among others .

In 2011 Lovedrug released three EPs with new songs and started the I Am Lovedrug campaign via PledgeMusic , which enables fans to use donations from the band to help with the recordings and thus actively participate in the creation process of a new album. This is announced with the title Wild Blood for March 2012 and will be released by Lovedrug alone without a label behind them. The split single Dinosaur / Pink Champagne had already been released before that , with a recent music video for Dinosaur - directed by singer Michael Shepard.
