Miguel [ miˈɣɛɫ ] (born January 4, 1980 in Lisbon ; actually Luís Miguel Brito Garcia Monteiro ) is a former Portuguese football player .

In 1998, Miguel, who was mainly used as a right-back, was accepted into the first team of Estrela Amadora . After two successful years, he went to Benfica Lisbon in 2000 . In 2006, the Portuguese moved to Valencia CF in the Primera División for eight million euros , where he ended his career in 2012.

Miguel played 59 times for the Portuguese national team between 2003 and 2010 and took part in two European and two world championships. In 2004 he became vice European champion in his own country with the national team.

In February 2011, Luís Miguel Monteiro was in the media after being charged with illegal gun possession .
