Luís Romano de Madeira Melo

Luís Romano de Madeira Melo (born June 10, 1922 on the island of Santo Antão , † January 22, 2010 , Brazil ) was a Cape Verdean writer, folklorist and poet.

Life

He worked as a coal miner, salt worker, carpenter and civil servant and lived in Brazil from 1962. He writes his works partly in Portuguese and in the Creole of Santo Antão. He prefers to call his mother tongue the 'Cape Verdean language'.
