Luca Visentini (2015)

Luca Visentini (* 1969 in Udine ) is an Italian trade unionist and poet. He has been General Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation since 2015 .

Career

After studying philosophy at the University of Trieste in Northern Italy, he joined Unione Italiana de Lavoro (UIL) in 1989 , where he was initially responsible for the union's youth work. In the same year he became General Secretary of the UIL Association for Tourism, Trade and Services in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region .

In 1996 he became General Secretary of the UIL in Friuli Venezia Giulia, member of the National Steering Committee and the Presidium, and General Secretary of the Confederal Chamber of Labor in Trieste. His work covered a number of areas, including a. Collective bargaining and wages, social dialogue, industrial, labor and economic policy, social security and public services, and communication and human resources.

In the following year he was active at European level as President of the Interregional Trade Union Council (IGR), which connects Friuli Venezia Giulia with Croatia, and as a member of the IGR coordination committee of the ETUC. From 2007 to 2011 he was Vice-President of this committee and a member of the Economic and Employment Committee of the ETUC.

European trade union confederation

Visentini was elected Federal Secretary at the 12th ETUC Congress in Athens in May 2011 . His areas of responsibility include:

• Collective bargaining and wage policy;
• Migration and mobility;
• Education and training;
• EU budget, structural funds, economic and social cohesion, regional policy;
• IGR and the EURES network.

He coordinated the activities of the workers' group in the European Social Fund committee; in the structured dialogue for the European Structural and Investment Funds; in the Advisory Committee on Free Movement of Workers; in the Committee of Directors General for Vocational Training; in the advisory committee for vocational training and in the integration forum for migrants.

Since the ETUC Congress in Paris in October 2015, after being elected General Secretary of the ETUC, he has also been General Secretary of the Pan-European Regional Council (PERC), the regional ETUC organization that represents trade unions across the European continent.

Other activities

In addition, Visentini was President of ISSES, the UIL Research Institute in Trieste for historical, economic and social studies (2006–2011), President of the vocational education and training provider of the UIL Department for Friuli Venezia Giulia ENFAP (2002–2006) and a board member the Italian International Research Centers Elettra-Sincrotrone and AREA Science Park.

In his spare time, Visentini works as a poet and author. From 2004 to 2012 he published four volumes of poetry and novels and served as chairman of a number of cultural associations and networks in the field of literature and theater.
