Lucay Islands
Lucayische Islands or Lucayen is now obsolete, or at least rare designation for the southeast coast of North America offshore islands that politically the Bahamas and the British overseas territory includes the Turks and Caicos Islands. The toponym is derived from the name of the "Lucayan" (self-designation lukku-cairi ), the now extinct native Indian inhabitants of the archipelago.
Together with the Antilles , which in contrast to the Lucay Islands are of volcanic origin and to which they are sometimes incorrectly counted, the Lucay Islands are grouped together to form the West Indies .
