Design and history

The lynx memorial is a kind of response to the lynx stone on the Brocken and the lynx stone near Lautenthal , which commemorate the shooting of the last lynx in the Harz Mountains in 1817 and 1818. 200 years after the extinction, it commemorates the successful reintroduction of the lynx in the Harz Mountains at the beginning of the 21st century. The reintroduction enclosure, from which the lynx were released between 2000 and 2006, was located near the site.

The monument consists of a lynx representative of Anna Barth created a bronze sculpture . The sculpture is on a stone made of Harz diabase from the Huneberg quarry . The monument was donated by Dietrich Steinhausen from Goslar .

The unveiling of the monument took place on October 20, 2017 with a small ceremony. In addition to the founder and the artist, the national park manager Andreas Pusch and his predecessor Wolf-Eberhard Barth were also present .
