A military diploma from AD 134 ( CIL 16, 79 )

Lucius Attius Macro was a Roman politician living in the 2nd century AD .

The following stations in Macro's career are known. He was Legatus legionis of both Legio VII Gemina and Legio I Adiutrix ; this is evidenced by two inscriptions. Then he was governor ( Legatus Augusti pro praetore ) in the province of Pannonia inferior , probably from 130/131 to 133/134; he is evidenced by an inscription and a military diploma as governor. Through further diplomas, e.g. Some of them are dated September 15 and October 16, 134 and an inscription dated September 22 shows that he was suffect consul with Publius Licinius Pansa in 134 ; the two probably held this office for four months, from September to December.

Remarks

  1. Both in the inscription ( AE 1937, 213 ) and in the military diploma ( ZPE-204-299 ) the name of the province has not been preserved. In the inscription, however, Macro is already referred to as consul designatus .
