Lucius Aufidius Panthera
Lucius Aufidius Panthera was a member of the Roman knighthood ( Eques ) living in the 2nd century AD . In the inscription his name is given as Lucius Aufidius Pantera .
A military diploma dated July 2, 133, shows that Panthera 133 was the commander of the Ala I Ulpia Contariorum milliaria , which at that time was stationed in the province of Pannonia superior ; the leadership of this unit is likely to have been his fourth military command ( Militia quarta ). An inscription shows that he was then prefect of the Roman fleet ( Classis Britannica ) stationed in Britain ; this post was linked to an annual income of 100,000 sesterces .
Panthera came from Sassina , today's Sarsina in Umbria , where his gentile name is evidenced by several inscriptions.
