Lucjan Kaszycki

Lucjan Marian Kaszycki (born September 27, 1932 in Krakow ) is a Polish composer, music teacher and scholar.

Kaszycki studied with Stanisław Wiechowicz at the State Music Academy in Cracow until 1957 . From 1954 to 1958 he was the musical director of the Kraków Groteska Theater . From 1958 to 1961 he taught at the State Music Academy, from 1961 at the State Music Academy in Cracow. There he was initially an assistant, then a lecturer in music theory and headed the composition class from 1967 to 1974. From 1974 he held lectures at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music on the propaedeutics of contemporary music, symphonic instrumentation, and on arrangement and teaching in the fields of jazz and popular music. In 1984 he received an extraordinary, and in 2002 a full professorship in musicology. From 1992 to 2003 he headed the arrangement class at the school for entertainment and jazz music Krzysztof Komeda , of which he is one of the founders.

As a composer, Kaszycki was best known for more than 150 plays and 50 film scores as well as numerous songs. He also composed piano works, orchestral works, electronic and computer music, several musicals and an opera. His works were u. a. Performed by the Polish Radio Orchestras Warsaw and Cracow and the Radio Choir Cracow. For his works and his educational work he received numerous prizes, including a. 2002 Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta .
