The Ludloffsche operation is an osteotomy of the first metatarsal for correcting an inclination of the big toe ( bunion ). It is named after Karl Ludloff .

Course of operation

The metatarsal bone is cut at an angle and shortened by moving the two bone parts towards each other. This is usually followed by an osteosynthesis , e.g. B. with a screw or temporarily with a wire. Additional surgical steps are often a medial capsule tightening, a lateral capsule release of the joint capsule of the metatarsophalangeal joint, and a tenotomy of the adductor tendon at the base of the metatarsal phalanx of the great toe. Good results have been reported, but there are no comparative prospective studies and the procedure is rarely used today.

The conversion osteotomies of the first metatarsal bone in the scarf technique or chevron technique are more frequently used . In addition, Ludloff's osteotomy cannot compensate for severe malpositions.
