The air raid on Sant Vicenç de Calders hit a train in Sant Vicenç de Calders , Catalonia , on October 9, 1938, killing 60 people.
Starting position
In 1938 there was civil war in Spain . Catalonia and its capital Barcelona sided with the Republicans. The fascists maintained air bases on the Balearic Islands .
A passenger train was traveling from Tarragona to Barcelona on the Barcelona – Valencia line . The passenger cars had wooden bodies.
bombing
During the air raid , the train was hit by aerial bombs from a single aircraft that came from the sea, and the train was then shot at by the aircraft. Six passenger cars were destroyed. According to other sources, the train was hit by bombs from a plane flying at high altitude.
consequences
60 people died and more than 100 were injured. Many people died in the panic that followed and were trampled down.
