The Fanas – Eggli cable car (also known as the Egglibahn) in Fanas in Prättigau is a year-round cable car from the Fanas valley station ( 920 m above sea level ) to the Maiensäss Eggli ( 1700 m above sea level ) on the Sassauna ( 2300 m above sea level) . M. ). The journey takes around 13 minutes and the train has three pillar exits. The Sassauna mountain restaurant is located above the mountain station.
history
The Egglibahn has its origins in the Second World War and at that time served to supply the border troops . The infantry factory Girenspitz Ost (A 6287) was built with an integrated cable car mountain station at Girenfürggli ( 2122 m above sea level ) northeast of Schuders from June 1940 (military cable car MSB95 / Z406: Stägentobel valley station (B1859) - Girenfürkli mountain station).
In 1947, the Fanas community assembly decided to buy the old train from the Schuders community. In 1949, it was set up at its current location and put into operation as a material transport line in order to better open up the pre-winter and Mayen pass next to the steep toboggan run. With the cantonal license of 1951, people who worked on the Maiensässen could also be transported.
The first tickets for general passenger transport were sold in 1953, but the permit was withdrawn in 1959 for security reasons. In 1960, the community assembly decided to replace the street in the Maiensäss with the cable car. The railway, which went into operation in 1964, could transport four people or 800 kg of material.
In 1992, the railway was brought up to date with the latest technology (control, cable monitoring, hydraulic braking system, etc.) and new cabins for eight people were purchased.
The railway has changed from an agricultural railway to an excursion railway that transports 12,500 people annually (as of 2018), of which 11,000 are tourists such as paragliders and hang gliders, hikers, holiday home owners and restaurant visitors.
